Richard “Grumpy” Joseph Popolillo Sr.—79, passed away on Friday August 10, 2012, in his home, following a stouthearted battle with cancer.
Born in Bronx, New York, Richard was the son of Lucille Howe-Rogers and step-fathered by Edward Howe, both of whom precede him in death.
He served 21 years in the Air Force, completing two tours in Vietnam before he retired on May 1, 1971.
He deeply loved his family, and both his relatives and those close enough to have known him as “Grumpy” cherished his unique personality.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Margareta Rita Genheimer Popolillo; his four children, Lucille Calkins (Michael); Donald Popolillo (Lori); Estelle Davis (Damon); and Richard Popolillo Jr. (Shiela); as well as 8 grandchildren and 5.5 great grandchildren. All that were close to him will treasure the memories made with such an unforgettable character.
The Reverend Joseph Patrick Breen will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection Tuesday August 14, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Edward Church. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward’s School Tuition Assistance Program, 188 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37211.
